Kuomintang lawmaker Lo Ming-tsai opened his campaign headquarters yesterday with blessings from his father-and-colleague Lo Fu-chu, whose whereabouts remains unknown following his departure late last month.
In a statement read by a moderator at a press conference at the headquarters in Hsintien, Lo Fu-chu claimed to be a victim of political persecution.

The senior Lo regretted in the statement the justice system's decision. He said he decided to become a lawmaker six years ago because he was disappointed with social disorder and an ineffective legislature. Over the past six years, Lo said, he has been pursuing reforms in a very careful way. But his reforms still inevitably offended some of those with vested interests and thus he has been politically oppressed for years.
