Hello, my name is Jennifer Kuo and I'm the program
director to the West Coast ITASA (Intercollegiate
Taiwanese American Students Association) 2001
conference to be held in Southern California for the
first time on the UCLA campus, this April 6-8th.
The reason for me emailing you is I got this email
address through Simon Cheng, from TUF and he suggested
I email this address to contact William Huang up in
Berkeley about helping us implement Taiwanese
languages as a course here at UCLA because to my
knowledge such a course is not offered here but at
Berkeley they have succeed in bringing such a course
to that campus. Being a Taiwanese American I would
love to see such a course taught her because I would
love to improve on my Taiwanese so I could actually
carry a long conversation with my Ah Ma and Ah Gong
(grandparents, sorry if my romanization is
inaccurate.) I also would love to see such a course
taught here because when I was working for TACL on our
Census 2000 campaign I saw that the highest number of
Taiwanese Americans live right in Southern California
and thereÂs not really any place here in Southern
California I can go and learn Taiwanese that I know
of. I know there was in the past but I donÂt think
they have that school there anymore and I think itÂs a
shame since we have so many Taiwanese Americans living
right here in Southern California.
Well thanks for your time and feel free to check out
our website
[http://www.itasawestcoast.org](<http://www.itasawestcoast.org/>)
Please tell everyone to come. And weÂre always
looking for sponsors, donatorsÂ
pretty much anything.
And if you know of anyone free that weekend that would
love to come speak feel free to suggest anyone. 8) I
have Khaisu Te (Kaishu Tai) as a speaker and Jemeng
Soh as a backup.
And youÂre all invited to our Free Friday Night event
on April 6th in Westwood Plaza. WeÂre having a
Taiwanese Night Market Festival.
Thank you/Doe Sha,
Jennifer Kuo
Program Director
