An article was published in NATURE that talks about the importance of Taiwan
in that it is the origin of 9 (total 10 in the world) subgroups of
Austronesian languages.

The title is "Taiwan's gift to the world" by Dr. J Diamond, Vol 403, 17 Feb.
2000 issue.

It can be accessed from NATURE's home page (www.nature.com) but requires
