Taiwanese should keep their language

by Claire Wang (12 hoe, toa ti Jitpun)

My name is Claire Wang, and I am a citizen of Japan. However, I am
originally Taiwanese. I speak English, Japanese, Taiwanese, and Mandarin. I
heard that in a few years English will become the official language of
Taiwan. WHY? Taiwan has it's own language, and it's not Chinese. People
speak Taiwanese, otherwise known as Hokkien. It is thought to be a problem
writing Taiwanese, since Chinese characters must be used, and there are
many which aren't commonly used. So what? It can still be spoken (it is)
and it certainly can be written. All you have to do is learn the English
alphabet and write down how you pronounce it. Simple. I'm going to say "I
am a Taiwanese person." Gwa shi taiwan lang. easy, isn't it? You can tell
what it says. At least I can. I'm not saying English is a bad language to
use for Taiwan, cause I always speak English. What I'm saying is, the
language of Taiwan shouldn't be forgotten,. if it has one. Taiwanese should
be kept. That's all I'm saying.
