Second Annual Graduate Student Conference on East Asia
Call For Papers
Asia Interacts
October 19-20, 2001
The purpose of our conference is to provide a forum for graduate students
to meet, interact and present their research in any discipline in the
Humanities and Social Sciences pertaining to East Asia. To encourage
greater participation, our conference theme is intentionally broad,
focussing on interactions of all kinds involving East Asia. This includes
East Asia's past, present and future interactions with the international
community, intra-regional interactions among various East Asian groups,
states, and societies, as well any form of domestic and trans-national
interaction in East Asia among various communities and individuals.
The conference will be held in conjunction with a round-table discussion
by graduate students on the work of the latest Nobel Prize for Literature
winner, Gao Xingjian. The round-table will be held on Friday, October
19th. Any graduate research papers on Gao Xingjian's works can be
presented separately in a conference panel on Saturday, October 20th.
______________________________
All presentations of papers should be no longer than 15 minutes.
Participants are encouraged to form panels of three if possible. Please
submit abstracts no longer than 200 words by June 1, 2001. Abstracts and
panel proposals should be submitted electronically by e-mail or as an
attachment. Please also include a cover letter indicating your name,
program, school, number of years in graduate studies and research
interests, or include a brief one page curriculum vitae.
Papers of no more than 7 pages with no Asian scripts must also be
submitted electronically, in Microsoft Word 6.0/97 format, no later than
August 17, 2001, so that panel discussants will have time to read them and
